Don't click there are vauge possible spoilers for Torchwood CoE episode 3 in here.

Well I just saw Episode 3 of Torchwood Children of Earth, and wow one I never knew that I could become scared of hive mind activity within children, and two Jack really got the short end of the stick when it came to what happened 40 years ago. I like the way though that the show is going with having secrets, the government of Brittan being the real enemy and this whole incident with the 456 seems to be set up with the idea that happened with the children and the 456 was a point where we will see either: a) due to the kid now adult guy who ran off the 456 returned, b) it did not matter that one of the 12 kids ran off and did not become a 'gift' to the 456, or c) the 456 are really untrustworthy and Torchwood is going to have to do what they do best.

I really like this set up with these five episodes of Torchwood it makes it so the show has to be of good quality and pack in its awesomeness into five episodes.

See! This is why you need to watch all the new Doctor Who episodes!

due to the kid now adult guy who ran off the 456 returned, b) it did not matter that one of the 12 kids ran off and did not become a 'gift' to the 456,

I think the Torchwood writers just had to find some way for TW to (a) know the 456 had been there before, (b) know something about the dangers involved (i.e., stealing all the children in their dry run doesn't bode well for the actual performance, does it), and (c) be involved in investigate-y type stuff so the government could notice. (And Gwen finding out she's pregnant was a nice bonus.) So they went with the ending of the Pied Piper (i.e., all the kids go off with the Piper except for one boy with a bad leg) and hoped no one would notice.

the 456 are really untrustworthy and Torchwood is going to have to do what they do best.

Well, I'd think that's a bit obvious now, isn't it? I mean, you don't possess all the Earth's children to send messages (which would be more eerie if they could spit out each message all at once instead of having to do it three or four times, adding a word on each time, to say the whole thing) if you're on the up-and-up.

I really like this set up with these five episodes of Torchwood it makes it so the show has to be of good quality and pack in its awesomeness into five episodes.

I know! It's so weird, I'm used to TW being good in the way Merlin or Kings is--cracky, fun, ridiculous, but you know it'll inspire good fic. But these episodes! It's like they've discovered quality! (Not necessarily in plot happenings and whatnot, but in characterization and dialogue and characters being awesome all 'round.) I wish DW had figured the same out for their five-episode season, really.

(Also I think Lois and Sarah Jane and Donna should get together and start a detective agency. With Sally Sparrow.)
